Fall Adventures
The fall passion for many of Bonners Ferry residents is stalking a wide range of game during fall hunting season. Deer, elk, moose and bear as well as other rare animals are found in the surrounding mountains. With cooler nights, warm up with a fall taste from Kootenai River Brewing Co. or a glass of wine from Heart Rock Wines. The Pearl Theater is located in a converted church and hosts a variety of shows throughout the year including music, readings, talks, theatre and community events. Take in the beautiful fall colors along the Pend Oreille and Wild Horse Trails scenic byways.
Annual Kootenai River Ride
Happening in September, enjoy the fall scenery as you pedal your way along the great Kootenai River and travel to the Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge. This is a paved route full of spectacular scenery with the potential to view wildlife, waterfowl, and Myrtle Creek Water Fall (10-minute walk). Visit www.kootenairiverride.com for more information.
Bonners Ferry Farmer's Market
The Bonners Ferry Farmer's Market (running year round) is one of the oldest farmers' markets in the state of Idaho. They have expanded our range of offerings and market hours over the years. The market has grown from a few hardy souls selling produce and bare-root plants to an average of nearly 30 vendors per market day with everything from salad mix, herbal vinegars and spices to handmade soaps, handspun yarn, basketry and lawn furniture. Many local small businesses have gotten their "training wheels" by participating in this market. In 2004 they added a Holiday Market in November showcasing holiday gifts, winter produce, and local artisans. Visit www.bonnersferryfarmersmarket.org for more information.
Farm to Table Local Gourmet Feast
The Farm to Table event happening in October is a fundraiser for the community garden organization, Gardeners for Regional Organic Wellbeing, or GROW. They provide ready-to-go organic garden plots at a very inexpensive rate, either $20 for a 4' by 20' space or $45 for a 10' by 20' space. They also grow organic produce for the local food bank and sell produce at the farmers market in order to support our organization. GROW has an educational focus as well, with gardening classes offered in conjunction with University of Idaho Extension. You will not want to miss this fun evening with outstanding local foods, a magician, silent auction, and raffles. Tickets are available at Bonners Books and the UI Extension Office. Please call Kate at the Extension Office for more information: 208.267.3235.
