It’s been a Bonners Ferry Christmas tradition for decades. The Annual Community Choir Christmas Concert promises to put you in the holiday spirit and is something for the entire family to enjoy.
Performances will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Friday, December 14 at 7:30pm and on Sunday, December 16 at 3pm. This year the community choir will be led by Julie McLeish, who will be taking over for Vicki Blake Thompson, who conducted the choir for the past 22 years.
Julie, who taught music for one year in Idaho Falls, has been involved in many choirs throughout the area and looks forward to bringing the wonderful voices of Bonners Ferry to life for the community to enjoy. Accompanied on piano by Jeff Hunsaker, Julie said as of mid-November there were approximately 30 vocalists attending the once-a-week rehearsals, which began in October.
“It is so amazing to listen to the harmony of the singers,” said Julie. “I love to direct, and this is a dream come true.”
While the concert is free, donations are accepted and will go to the cost of purchasing music, practice CDs and choir workshops.
Julie shares that the annual Christmas Concert put on by the community choir is truly all about community.
“There are people of all different religions, and some who are not affiliated with a religious background, who come together to sing,” said Julie. “This choir is such a great part of the community, and Vicki has left a great legacy.”
The choir will perform a minimum of 10 numbers of traditional Christmas songs in arrangements that all will enjoy. Refreshments will be served at the church immediately following both performances.
