Fourth of July festivities return to Bonners Ferry
By Jillian Chandler
After much anticipation … it is time to celebrate! Not just because this is the month we commemorate our country’s independence, but because the festivities to accompany the Fourth of July weekend are set to return in grand fashion! And a day early! So you can enjoy the entire weekend, adorned in red, white and blue, with your friends and family.
It’s time to let your patriotism—and creativity—shine, as you decorate anything from your classic cars and boats to golf carts, bicycles and horses—yes! Horses! As Bonners Ferry will kick off its Independence Day celebration at 11am on Saturday, July 3, with the Hometown Parade, organized by Lucas and Charli Turner of Turner Plumbing. This year’s theme is “2021 Our Past and Our Future,” and the couple is encouraging all businesses, organizations and individuals to join in with decorated patriotic parade entries. Lineup will begin at 10am at the Boundary County Fairgrounds parking lot. Awards will be given out for most patriotic float, best representation of our hometown, and best of Badger pride. And every entry to the parade will be entered into a drawing, with the winner receiving a basket of “hometown” goodies. There will also be an award for the most patriotic storefront in Bonners Ferry.
Plan to spend the afternoon enjoying all Bonners Ferry has to offer and end the day with the 9B Arenacross & Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks Show. John Becker has been hard at work, passionate about doing his part in making this a day to remember for both young and old. Registration is open from 9 to 11am for this year’s 9B Arenacross; gates open to the public at 4:30pm, with the excitement to begin at 5:30pm. There will be food vendors throughout the evening as well as a speaker or two after the races. The evening will conclude with a spectacular fireworks show beginning at dusk (a little after 10) in the ballfields at the fairgrounds—and the show is free to attend!
It's sure to be a memorable Independence Day celebration the Bonners Ferry community, and its visitors, won’t soon forget.
Happy Independence Day, Bonners Ferry!
