North Bench Flower Patch: Growing Beauty

Bringing vibrant plants to Bonners Ferry

By Like Media Team

North Bench Flower Patch is a family-owned garden center in Bonners Ferry that shares its love for flowers and plants with the community. What started as a passion for horticulture and gardening has grown into a thriving business, offering annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees to help locals cultivate green spaces.

“Our love for growing flowers and plants inspired us to turn our hobby into a business,” say the owners. “We have been gardening in Boundary County for two decades and enjoy sharing our experiences, but we have also found there is much to learn from gardeners who have been here longer.”

The business operates as a retail garden center, receiving weekly shipments of new plants throughout the season. Most of the inventory comes from wholesale nurseries in the Inland Northwest, while potted trees are locally grown. Selecting hardy varieties ensures customers receive plants suited for the region's climate.

From petunias and pansies to lavender and hostas, the Flower Patch provides a variety of plants for local gardens. They offer vines, veggie starts, hanging baskets, berry bushes, shrubs, and trees. They also stock many deer-resistant varieties.

Opening for the season on April 25th, 2025, the team begins preparations as early as January. This involves researching new plant varieties and placing orders for the greenhouse to ensure the best inventory. The greenhouse remains open for a short season, typically closing by July 4th, providing an essential service during peak planting months.

The Flower Patch is known for its tried-and-true selections but introduces new and unique plants each year to keep things fresh. This season, new varieties of roses and peonies and an expanded selection of trees give customers more options to enhance their gardens. The week of Mother's Day is the best time to shop for a great selection of hanging baskets and other flowers.

Beyond flowers and foliage, the garden center is a hub for the gardening community. “We love our customers, who are of all ages and walks of life, and who share a love for growing things. Some are first-time gardeners eager to learn, while others have much wisdom to share from their gardening knowledge.”

Gardening in Boundary County presents unique challenges due to varying microclimates. While the area is generally listed as hardiness zone 5, different locations can experience a range of growing conditions. The knowledgeable team helps customers select plants best suited to their environment.

Follow the latest updates on new arrivals, special sales, and seasonal announcements on Facebook. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just starting, visiting their greenhouses is an experience—a chance to soak in the sights and scents of flowers in full bloom.

The Flower Patch remains a favorite destination for plant enthusiasts. Offering plants and a space for inspiration, learning, and community connection. Stop by, browse the selection, and let your garden dreams take root this season.
