The Boundary County Fair, a beloved tradition in Bonners Ferry, is gearing up for another exciting year under the guidance of first-year fair manager Jaycee Atkins. Jaycee, a seasoned 4-H leader and co-chair of the Boundary County Livestock Association, brings a deep-rooted passion for community and agriculture to her new role.

Growing up in Bonners Ferry, Jaycee was no stranger to the fair. Her childhood memories of the fairgrounds are now intertwined with her own family's experiences as they eagerly anticipate the annual event.

"There was never a doubt in my mind, my kids would be in 4-H and live this lifestyle as well," Jaycee shared, highlighting the intergenerational legacy the fair fosters within families.

As fair manager, Jaycee faced a steep learning curve, having taken on the role in March. Despite the challenges, she has worked tirelessly to ensure that this year's fair is a resounding success. Utilizing resources like the Rocky Mountain Fair Association and various social media platforms, Jaycee has curated an exciting lineup of events and entertainment for fairgoers.

This year's fair theme, "Red, White and Blue, This Fair is For You," sets the patriotic tone for the festivities. Sadee Burt and Natalie Feuerstein, winners of the fair book cover and T-shirt design competitions respectively, have added their creative touch to the fair's visual identity.

Entertainment highlights include performances by local bands Buffalo Speedway and Copper Mountain Band. Additionally, a 9-hole mini golf course will be available for family fun on Thursday, Friday and Saturday during fair week.

For Jaycee, the fair is more than just a week-long event; it's a culmination of community pride and hard work.

"I feel like a lot of people take part in this fair, and it is a pride and joy that we all get to showcase the things that we do on our homesteads," Jaycee reflected.

The fair relies heavily on volunteers, and Jaycee encourages community members to get involved. Whether it's assisting with event setup, helping with livestock shows or lending a hand at the various attractions, volunteers play a crucial role in making the fair a success. Those interested in volunteering can reach out to Jaycee at BCFairManager@boundarycountyid.org.

As the fair approaches, Jaycee looks forward to creating new memories with her family while reveling in the warm embrace of community spirit. "It's really cool to see all the volunteers and all the people who come out to serve from the community," Jaycee remarked.

The 2024 Boundary County Fair promises to be a celebration of community, heritage, and the enduring spirit of Bonners Ferry. Come on out to the fairgrounds August 6 through 10 for a week of family friendly fun and festivities. For more information, visit BoundaryCountyFairgrounds.com.
